The Governor of the Banque de France, François Villeroy de Galhau, opens us the doors of the whole new CEFINOF (Centre fiduciaire Nord de France, Cash center of northern France).

This new generation bills sorting center is state-of-the-art and completely automated.
The bills enter by a highly secured SAS, without any manual operation. They are controlled, scanned, automatically carried thanks to small robots or conveyors. Some robots will then take them out of their packaging and send them to the sorting workshop.
In this workshop, with the assistance of specialized agents, automatic machines sort them at the speed of 33 bills per second! 15% are destroyed by the machine because they are damaged, too old, or sometimes fake. All the others will be reconditioned and return to the market.

The security is extremely high in both the building design and the security apparatus. A system of high quality cameras enables to see the whole 6.000 square meters site.

Within the context of our assistance mission, we have been able to discuss with Mr. Villeroy de Galhau, governor of the Banque de France, about the issues the CEFINOF has to face: new organization, changes in the management practices, handling the new tools.

The governor insists on the numerous changes around this new center :
« The issue and the maintenance of paper money are historically the first mission of a Central Bank. The environment of this profession is in deep mutation, both as a result of the digitalization of the sector and the evolution of the players of the fiduciary sector »
